Mayfair The Settlers of Catan Board Game Reviews
This is one game that deserves all of the awards and praise it has received. There are a lot of games out there with cool concepts that don’t deliver when it comes to game play. This is not one of them. Tons of fun to play and straightforward rules make it easy to learn. I also like that all the pieces are made out of wood and not cheap plastic. Easily one of my favorite games and I’m looking forward to adding one of the expansion sets.
Unlike most board games in this one every time you play, you start with a different map. The resource tiles are in different locations and the number to get the resource changes. So, in one game, wood might be plentiful and ore rare and the next game wheat is plentiful and bricks rare. So the value of the resources changes from one game to another depending on how common the resources are.
For example, to build a road, you need wood and bricks, so wood is valuable, but only if you also have bricks. Fortunately, you can trade with other players or trade with the bank. Trading with the bank, though you’ll need at least two resources for every one that you get. So, it’s better to trade with other players, but you’re competing against them and trading with them helps them.
