Taboo

Taboo, How do you get your team to say diamond, if you can’t say baseball, ring, carats, jewel or engagement’ You might say, “These are a girl’s best friend. Hope is a huge one. The World Series is played here. Some are found in the rough.” Get your team to say the secret word. Give suggestive sentences, funny phrases or even one word hints as clues. But don’t use any of the words on the card. That’s Taboo! Each time your team shouts out the secret word, you get a point. But be careful! Your opponents will be “looking over your shoulder” – making sure you don’t say any of the Taboo words. If you do and they catch you, they sound the buzzer and score the point! It’s unspeakable fun. Take our word for it! For 4 or more players. Game includes: 504 cards, card holder, buzzer, timer, score pad, and instructions. Requires 2 “AA” alkaline batteries (not included).

Taboo Reviews

Taboo is a great game for parties or any group of about four or larger. Make sure you watch the timer, because it’s easy to get caught up in the word-guessing action! My only complaint would be that I got the 2000 version (they update them every few years I believe), and it’s nice to have the most current one possible (including current political leaders and celebrities).

My wife and I have been playing Taboo for years, but usually in pretty homogenous groups (i.e., other adults). Well, on New Year’s Eve, we pulled it out and played with a large group, including adult friends, our kids, and our kids’ friends. The result was a riot!

Some of the younger ones are at a disadvantage, since they don’t know of some of the persons and things referenced on the cards. If the kids are spread across the teams, this works out okay. If you are playing adults vs. kids, then you may need to tweak the rules a bit (e.g., letting them get a number of free passes to go on to the next card). It was definately something we’ll do again, and the kids brought a refreshing perspective to the game.
