I purchased this machine from Williams-Sonoma and it did come with the “My K-Cup” personal ground coffee filter. I experimented in every way possible as soon as I took it out of the package. The pods work great, but I was skeptical at first about the more “economical” alternative—using the “my k-cup” filter with regular ground coffee. Well, I tried it…and it was excellent. The manual suggests using 2 tbs. of ground coffe in the filter (which IS marked at 1 tbs. and at 2 tbs.) and holds up to 2.7 tbs. to give you room to play if you like stronger coffee. I filled the filter all the way to the top and brewed 2 medium sized cups in a row….both were perfect.
The machine also does hot water, of course, for tea and hot chocolate….but I tried to take it a step further by placing a regular tea bag (minus the string and tag) into the chamber…and it brewed perfectly. So, loose tea in the “my k-cup” filter would also turn out great, I’m sure.
All in all, this is truly a QUICK, versatile, SUPERB coffee machine. Great for myself, who enjoys decaf and tea, and also for my husband who prefers strong as strong can get. He can have his cup, then I can have mine right after. No mess….no cleaning (except for having to clean the my k-cup filter, which is a breeze), and MANY options from a small, simple machine. Well worth the money. I can’t wait to use it when I have guests….that way everyone can have exactly whatever kind of coffee or tea they want and without a wait!
I bought my boss the Home Cafe for Christmas to use at work. She loves it, so I tried a cup. I wasn’t impressed with the flavor or trying to use the machine. But, I did like the convenience, so I was going to by one for myself. I came here, saw the reviews(which were less than stellar)so I moved on. I found The Keurig B60 and read the reviews on it. 199.00 seemed a little steep for a coffee pot, but I had gotten a 100.00 gift certificate for a store that carried them. I figured I may regret it because coffee is coffee and my Cuisinart makes some very good coffee. I was tired of throwing out unused coffee so I went for it. I tried to rationalize the expense of the coffe K cups by recognizing that I would not be throwing coffee out. So, home it comes. I had it set up, primed and ready to brew in 5 minutes. I brewed Columbian for me, Sumantra for my husband and tea for my daughter. We all loved it!! The convenience alone is worth the money, but, when it was time to go to bed and make my traditional,programed coffee for the morning. The filter cleaning, the pot washing, the measuring, the water filling, and the wiping of the coffee grinds and the water drops that had escaped me during the process onto the kitchen counter, I realized that I didn’t have to do it. That and the individual choice of what coffee to drink, as well as the great coffee it makes just thrilled me. I told my husband that I must be getting old for a coffee pot to excite me that much, but I’m telling you it’s worth every penny even without the gift card. If you are on the fence, I don’t believe you’ll be disappointed if you go for it, and I don’t believe you’ll ever own another coffee pot.
Great coffee maker that makes a good cup of coffee and a good cup of tea. If you’re exceptionally picky about your coffee, you might be disappointed since it does not rival a well-made fresh ground cup of joe, but the Keurig allows you to brew a good cup of coffee and tailor it to your specific tastes. My wife likes decaf and I like strong caffeinated coffee, so this offers the ability to make everyone happy. The selection of k-cups for both tea and coffee is much better than other single cup systems. The coffee from Timothy’s is my favorite, especially the ultra dark roasts. The other plus for this unit over the other pod systems is that you can purchase a small filter which allows you to use your OWN custom ground coffee and blends. Good selection of teas from Twinings and Celestial Seasonings. System brews a good cup of tea that is smotth and not bitter. The downside is that we haven’t found a good local source and have had to buy from the internet from both Amazon and Ebay. Ebay allows you to buy individual k-cups so that you can sample different blends and brands before you buy the big boxes. Local stores have just a few brands and don’t reflect the much larger variety available for the Keurig system vice the other pod systems. We’re glad we bought this unit!!
