DeLonghi TRN0812T Review
This DeLonghi TRN0812T is the second Delonghi oil heater that I bought from Amazon and I am completely satisfied with each. (I also purchased the Delonghi HM25E Dragon Ultimate Oil Filled Radiator Heater bought in 2005, twice the cost, twice the heater.)
I like the size of the smallest, a little more – it fits better in the small space where I use it. We use a 10 ‘x 10′ master bath. The room is not insulated (Home 85 years of age) and is hardly the warm central heating system of the house (radiated water heat).
I used every day this winter and found it is more than enough for this room, even during colder winter days. The temperature recently dropped to -5 F overnight (Chicago) and I have a heater set on high for 60-90 minutes to activate before I get up. The bathroom is always nice and warm in the AM, even if the exterior wall is cold to the touch.
I was concerned about the safety of using an electric heater in the bathroom Because of electric shock and fire hazards. No problem for each account. I recommend using a GFCI outlet to Reduce the Risk of electric shock, as radiator, oil-filled does not accumulate excessive amounts of heat (as long as you do not cover – keep it open so heat can radiate far away).
The heater on / switches (one for high, one for bass) and an electro-mechanical timer. You set the current with the dial, then set the timer to turn on and off as much as you wish during the day. You can be precise about 15-30 minutes. The unit must remain connected for it to keep accurate time. Electronic LED timers (like on the Delonghi Dragon) can be more precisely defined, but usually have a limited number of power system parameters (Dragon has a limit of 2).
This heater also has a thermostat “of sorts. It does not temperature, just gives a min / max off 1-6 (my other goes to 11). A 6 setting for about an hour to a loaf Grilled 10×10 bathroom at 0 degrees F , while setting at 3 for one hour is 32 degrees.
Energy consumption – my electric bill Increased only about 8-10/mo from autumn to winter, a small price to pay.
The heater is short (about 16-18 inches) and very stable, fits under my pedestal sink between the sink and bath – a perfect place. It is warm to the touch, but not to the point that you (or child) can burn you.
