Black & Decker 18-Volt Cordless Electric Pole Chain Saw, 8-Inch Bar #NPP2018, Prune dead branches 14 feet above head level with Black and Decker’s Cordless 18-volt Pole Pruning Saw and never set up a ladder again. An eight-inch cutting bar and chain cuts branches six inches in diameter with out overexertion. A center extension slides out to reach the high branches and slides back in for lower cuts. For less downtime and more productivity, the 18-volt Nicad battery has enough runtime and power to cut one hundred 1-1/2-inch branches on a single charge. A 3-section design folds down for compact storage in the included storage bag. An extremely user-friendly tool, this saw’s motor is positioned in-line with the pole so that it fits between branches easily and doesn’t obstruct visibility.
And, weighing only 7.6 pounds, this pruning saw is easy to handle as well. Not only does it reach high branches easily, it actually cuts them, too. The saw comes with battery, charger, storage bag, blade guard, oil bottle, and wrench. Black and Decker covers the pruning saw with a 30-day, no-risk, satisfaction guarantee as well as a full two-year warranty.

Black & Decker 18-Volt Cordless Electric Pole Chain Saw, 8-Inch Bar #NPP2018 Reviews
I bought this for my husband last Christmas hoping that it would make some of his basic pruning jobs around the house a lot easier. Little did I realize that this saw would give him delusions of grandeur, but as a result, we spent the better part of this past summer doing MAJOR pruning work in our yard. However, thanks to this saw, we were able to do everything ourselves, something that would have been impossible without the extension features of this product. We have four major trees in our yard, and working from a ladder (probably not always in the safest manner), my husband was able to trim them all back to allow for easier mowing of the lawn. Make no mistake, this was a BIG job–even though the saw is relatively light-weight, holding it steady while reaching for higher branches is extremely taxing. Frankly, I’m not sure how my husband was able to do it, as he is not a big guy (5′6″, <150 lbs.); in fact, I consider myself to be pretty strong, and I was barely able to hold the saw in place when I tried it.
If you don’t need the extension feature, the saw is even easier to use; pruning smaller trees is a snap! It’s great that it is battery-powered, so there is no gas to mess with and no cords to get in the way, although the charging can be inconvenient at times (seems like my husband was able to get about 1-2 hours of continuous use before having to recharge). However, the recharging process is simple, leaving you sawing again in no time! All the accessories you need are included, plus the saw comes with an attractive and sturdy storage case. This is a must-have yard maintenance items; if you are strong and take all of the necessary safety precautions, I highly recommend it!
I’m a small female and have chain sawed since 1976. I didn’t realize until buying this pole saw – how much time I spent making 100% sure the ladder position and my position and the branch position were all safe as I could make them before cutting. Not that I’m chicken, but I’ve always had BIG properties and ANY injury would result in lost work time.
This little baby practically eliminates all that, because even without the last extension – you are well out of harms way. If the branch can’t possibly fall on you or slam the ladder out from under you, you can just zip, zip, zip.
Battery time. I didn’t time the first use, but it was long enough to fill my yard with debris that took all day to clean up and barrel, plus I took it to a neighbors house, went up on their roof and sawed till it quit, so they could spend the next day barreling theirs for the next “green day” pickup. I wanted it spent so I could re-charge it for me to use again the next day. I’d guess it held about an hour first time.
Package instructions say it takes 5 charges to reach it’s maximum charge.
The evening it arrived, I charged it 9 hours per instructions. Instructions say: “After the initial charge, under normal usage, your battery should be fully charged in 3 to 6 hours. If the battery is run-down completely, it may take up to 6 hours to become fully charged.”
They are exactly right. I tried at 3 hours (after having it run-down completely and it needed more. So I plugged it back in for 3 hours and it ran perfect again. I kept track of the 5 charges, a 9 hr and four 6 hr. Now, the first time it hesitates, I stop and plug it in and set a little timer next to it. Overcharge is not a good idea for battery life either. I don’t take the battery inside the house, but I DO take the timer, so when it goes off, I go out and unplug.
Book says: “To prolong battery life, avoid leaving the battery on charge for extended periods of time (over 30 days without use). Although overcharging is not a safety concern, it can significantly reduce overall battery pack life.”
“The battery will reach optimum performance after being cycled 5 times during normal usage. There is no need to run the batteries down completely before recharging. Normal usage is the best method of discharging and recharging the batteries.”
My only complaint is having to manually oil the chain. BUT they did make a place on the chain cover to hold a little bottle of oil and the allen wrench to tighten the chain. So I just filled it with my Chain Saw oil and a few drops will do ya. I paid $20 more for this 10-30-07 but I don’t care. I LOVE IT. Plus it comes with a big black bag, that holds everything and you can put it in your trunk! Ever wonder what you would do on a backroad with a tree limb blocking the road? I’m covered!! ha
This actually happened last week to some guy coming towards me. I can’t tell you his look of surprise when Miss 65 plus, popped her trunk, came out with a pole saw, slammed in the battery, made 3 quick cuts and SMILED!!! He threw the pieces off the road, while I put it back in my trunk and we were both on our way. A nice memory.

LOVE IT! I far better enjoy the battery component of this item than the gas/oil mix of most outdoor equiptment. Makes quick work of most things. Heavy enough to help tone my upper arm area-and abs as well! Allows me freedom NOT to have to call the local lawn service for simple and costly pruning.
