Weber’s One-Touch Gold kettle grill is a great buy for anyone looking for a classic model with a few convenient extras. The design is sleek. The results are delicious. As with all Weber grills, this kettle’s lid and bowl are constructed of premium porcelain-enameled steel–which means not only does heat radiate evenly, but the grill will survive if it’s left out in the rain. The cooking surface (22-1/2 inches in diameter) is big enough to accommodate six large steaks, twice as many burgers, or up to a dozen kebabs, and the grill’s classic kettle shape keeps flare-ups to a minimum. When designing this grill, Weber clearly kept convenience in mind. The grill’s nickel-plated grate has two built-in hinged side openings that make adding more charcoal briquettes easy and safe, and, when the lid’s not in use, it can hang from the bowl by a handy hook. The grill is durable, too. The porcelain-coated steel bowl and lid are exceptionally strong and designed never to rust, fade, or peel. The grill’s aluminum vents and ash catcher won’t rust either, and its tripod base, nylon handles, and all-weather wheels–besides being exceptionally sturdy–make the grill remarkably easy to maneuver. Weber’s patented One-Touch cleaning system–a clever setup of lever-activated blades–sifts ash out of the kettle and into a cooking-pot-shaped ash catcher. You never have to get your hands dirty–and emptying the kettle takes only a few seconds. To top it all off, Weber throws in a 31-page owner’s guide filled with cooking tips and time-tested recipes for grilling everything from pork chops to bratwurst to Cornish hens.

Weber 751001 22 1/2-Inch One-Touch Gold Charcoal Grill, Black Reviews
There are some downsides which, if I didn’t love this so much would make me rate this with 4 stars: Home assembly was a little trickier than I expected – attaching the legs and ash collector attachment required a little patience and attaching the wheels involved a fiddly end cap which needed a small hammer and some dexterity. The lid hook is hidden and small and although I’ve got the hang of it now, others in my family don’t find it that easy. It pretty much only allows you to hang the lid on the side of the main body rather than anywhere else on the deck. The lid handle can also get quite hot (although not always) so unless you’ve got asbestos fingers like I have, you may want to ensure you’ve got some good oven gloves/mitts. But these are very minor points considering the satisfaction we’ve had using the Weber Gold. I’ve had my 22″ One Touch Gold for a few years and am still amazed by how versatile it is. Most of the time I just grill steaks, chicken or veggies or whatever, but occasionally I do low ‘n slow indirect cooking. This grill does it all. It is a very rare weekend when I don’t fire it up. The Performer was the first grill I noticed, but it’s more than double the money of the One Touch Gold. It has a propane lighter, but I use a chimney anyway to light coals. It’s so simple and works so well I can’t see the need for propane lighting. The other major improvements over the One Touch are the lid holder and the built-in temperature guage. But I found that there’s a slide-aside attachment you can get for One Touch grills that functions like the Performer’s built-in lid holder, and I knew I could easily drill a hole in the lid and install a thermometer. I found a threaded gas grill replacement thermometer for ~$10 at Home Depot, drilled a hole centered about 6″ below the handle on the grill, slid on a washer and tightened the nut. It’s been more than two years and it still works great. In fact, it looks like it was designed to be there. Weber, are you listening? (I suspect the lesser kettle grills lack these easy to add features in order to drive sales of the Performer.) I also bought a little attachment holder for the front of the grill, as well as a set of Weber stainless steel utensils. The whole works has been sitting on the patio with minimal (actually zero) maintenance for the past few years and there is no sign of rust. I bought a cover but generally don’t bother with it. I also picked up a few Weber cookbooks, Weber’s Big Book of Grilling, Real Grilling, and Charcoal Grilling. All are good quality books with many useful recipes. I also have a few (excellent) Stephen Raichlen books, How to Grill, Barbeque Bible and BBQ USA. Any of these will help you get more out of your Weber grill. I’ve had other charcoal grills before and always had problems either with burning or getting the food to cook consistently. But soon after I got this Weber I realized that the equipment really does matter. The vents do a great job of regulating the air flow, keeping things at a steady temperature while not providing enough oxygen for real fires to develop. Barbequeing/grilling is fun hobby and my wife is glad to not have to cook on the weekends. This is the one to get. Bought this grill about 2 yrs. ago and its an excellent performer. However, about three months ago I noticed that the cover was going out of round with the kettle and it wouldn’t seal properly. I went to the Weber website to purchase a replacement cover and couldn’t find it as an available part for purchase so I called customer service. Before I knew it, the service representative was verifying my address to send me a replacement cover, no questions asked. I have seen some of the posts here about customer service, but was a little skeptical. I’m not anymore. A really pleasant surprise. Great product, great company.
