Michael Jackson – History on Film, Vol. 2 (1997) Reviews
THis has many more videos and live performances than the first History on film. It starts off with the actual History commercial. It then launches into the legandary Motown 25 performance of Billie Jean were Michael debuted the moonwalk. Then it has an old favorite from the first History On Film, Beat It. Then it has Smooth Criminal from the Moonwalker Movie. And then the higlight of the video. Michael Jacksons performance at the 1995 MTV Video Awards. He performs a 15 minute medly wich includes the hits Dont Stop Till You Get Enough, The Way You Make Me Feel, Beat It, Thriller, Scream, Black or White, Billie Jean, Dangerous, and You Are Not Alone. Then the rest of the tape includes the videos Thriller, Scream, Childhood, You Are Not Alone, Earth Song, Stranger in Moscow, They Dont Really Care About Us, and Blood on the DAnce Floor. It also has the Brace Yourself excert from the first video.
Okay this is a great video for those that want everything probably already at your house in better condition. I for one had better sound of the Motown Billie Jean performance than from the original show shown back in ‘83. The videos shown are : History advertiserment shown on t.v. to promote the History album with the statue), Billie Jean from Motown performance, Beat It, Liberian Girl, Smooth Criminal (edited moonwalker version not the original video), MTV performance from 1995, Thriller, Scream, STranger IN Moscow, Childhood, Blood on the Dance Floor, You Are not alone, (basically all the History videos, except the mixes) and the Teaser. Basically, I had all this stuff the only good thing about it was it was in stereo and clearer and brushed up from eighties. Other than that I’d think this was a waste of money. Nothing new on here.
I went to Hollywood Video & rented this on VHS & let me tell you when I saw it, it completely renewed my interest in Michael Jackson. I went out & bought the DVD right away. No matter what the press says, he is truly amazing & one of a kind! The 1995 MTV performance is just show stopping & the proof is in the standing ovation he gets when he finishes. I also loved the Blood on the dance floor video because for the first time, it shows Michael partner dancing with another girl which looks hot. I like the teaser at the beginning & it has a better version of the Smooth Criminal video than the Number Ones DVD. It even includes the legendary Motown 25 performance where he performs Billie Jean & for the first time, does his iconic moonwalk. This DVD is a must have for all fans & those who want to see some of Michael’s best work!
Since I am a Jackson fan for more than half of my life now (I am 21) and not only his music but also the man himself are very special to me, you could say that I am not exactly the ideal person to critic this dvd. But for those, who, just like me, love Michaels music and his performances with all their heart, this is the one dvd to have. And for those who don’t like Michael’s work but who are interested in seeing some of the best chartographed dance performances, this dvd is still worth its money. Finally, I hope that there will be a 3rd “HisTory” Video/DVD for there is surely a lot of material left, that isn’t inclouded in “History – Video Greatest Hits” or “HisTory on Video Vol. 2″.
